Deer and The Floating Torii

Miyajima is a small island just south of Hiroshima. It is most popular for it's floating Torii gate, which is part of it's much bigger 'floating' shrine, Itsukushima Jingu. It is said that people who wanted to enter the shrine weren't allowed to from land, so they had to approach from sea and were instructed to pass through the floating torii. (The entrances to shrines always are signified by a torii gate.) We spent a night on this island in a very cute traditional japanese ryokan with yukatas and a private onsen. What a wonderful little treat. I'd go back again and again if I could.

More pictures will be added to my site soon...once the vacation is over. We have since been to Nara and are in Kyoto for 5 days now, but i've yet to download the pics. Stay tuned.
