So the other day my roommate was talking to me about a friend of hers. What I got from the story wasn't what she was trying to express, but it was really cool.
So there was this couple who were dating, and had been for a while. Then the guy started to like another girl. And not just have a crush while knowing it would never be anything...but like really like another girl. Anyway, he told his girlfriend, and actually asked her what she thought he should do.
Now this seems unlogical, doesn't it? But now that i've told someone and they agree it's logical, I feel...well of course it's logical.
But in reality you'd just expect him to ask his guy friend what he thought and then either dump his girlfriend or decide to forget about the other girl.
Isn't this just a perfect example of true love and the human condition?!!!! Wasn't he doing exactly what Jesus would do if in that position??!!
There's no lying no cheating no other crap. He was being completely honest and went to the person who knew him best, his girlfriend, for help.
I love that story. Basically because I love things that don't make sense, but underneath make TOTAL sense. Sigh.
I want to be like them.

There's one problem with your assessment. You assume that the relationship is ideal. If this person was really truly honest with their girlfriend, then yes, I agree that is what they should do. But if either of them were even the smallest bit manipulative, then this would blow up in their faces. If not now, eventually.
I like to think the best of people, so I think they'll be okay.
